My Talk

So I gave my talk Wednesday night! It went great! I was so nervous before when we were practicing but then once I got on stage I felt this peace and calmness come over me and I was able to deliver the talk nice and smooth. I was even able to deliver all my pronunciations correctly too! I am maticulous about making sure I am saying it right! After the meeting Jen, me, Austin, Tom and Matt all went to dinner at Phil's, I was STARVING!!! Jen recorded my talk so as soon as I get it from her I will post it here for those of you wanting to see it! Til next time...

Just bought some "Farsi Keyboard Stickers" (see picture below) for my keyboard. They will help me in typing my talk! Had meeting tonight! I could not get my brain to function in Persian. I had all these answers prepared and I just couldnt get them said, it was driving me nuts. I am hoping it was just because I was so tired today. Came home from work and crashed. Jen woke me up so that I could eat dinner and go to meeting. I am glad I went. It was so encouraging and we got to meet some Swiss German brothers. They went to Mammoth for a month, now spending some time in SD, then going on a West Coast road trip for a month and then down to Mexico for a month to help on a quick build. They were very nice! Made plans with Alexis for her to come over and help me with the rest of my talk Fridsay night. So her and Simon are going to come over, I will feed them dinner and she will help me with my talk! Yay! That way I can get it typed up and then have some time to practice it before I give it, two weeks from tonight. Well, going to crash in bed again. Love to all,

Farsi Keyboard stickers

Translation Complete... almost!

Valerie helped me get my talk mostly translated last night! There are just a few sentances left and they are a bit difficult. So I will get someone a little more fluent to help me get those done. Tonight I was going to go to Austin's for study night to prepare for meeting tomorrow night but he was having house issues. So another family invited us over for dinner and studying at their house but by the time I found out what time to come over, it was going to be so late. So I stayed home, got some studying done on my own, watched some tv, cleaned my room and now doing a quick update before I head to bed. Have to get up early tomorrow since I have a board meeting at 8am. Have a good night all!

Weekend update

So I didnt make it in service yesterday. I had a friend come to the beach and bring me coffee and breakfast and came to visit. I ended up being there all day which was fun but it was cold. Bonfire was small, only about 20 people. But I did get lots of studying done yesterday. Today at meeting I had comments ready and I had practiced the James 2:21-23 read scripture. And yay me, the scripture wasnt taken and I was able to read it! I was so nervous, shaking, I have only read small scriptures at the meeting and its been a while. But I got it read with Jehovah's help! We had a visiting brother from the Persian congregation up in Los Angeles so we did hospitality after. Lots of Persian food, great friends and wonderful conversation! I am planning a LONG day in service next Saturday since we technically dont have convention cleanup since this technically isnt our convention. Heehee! A friend of mine is coming down from Temecula for the cleanup and staying the night. Then shes coming down and staying for the convention too! Cant wait! Well, I need to get some sleep, lots of work and studying ahead of me this week. Goodnight world!

Busy little bee...

Life has been so busy! I have been doing so much Persian studying and I feel like my vocabulary is really starting to grow! I didnt get in service last Saturday because I was going to spend the morning with my grandma who just got diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. But my aunt called and said that they all had a really contagious flu and that it was best that I not come over. So I didnt get to see her. Sunday I went to meeting, then had class after. I think the brother is mad at us lol! He gave us SO MUCH HOMEWORK:
*Memorize Job 14:15
*Write paragraph 2 in lesson 2 of the "Friendship with God" brochure 3 times
*Make a vocabulary list from the words in lesson 2
*Write an essay on your favorite country
AHhhhhhhhhhhhh, I work 40 hours a week. I have a hard enough time trying to just get my studying done for the meetings. I have half of the scripture memorized and one of the paragrphs written. I will get done what I can...

Tomorrow Jen and I are having a bonfire out at La Jolla shores. We plan to get there about 4:30am tomorrow to get the pit. Then I am going to leave from there and go out in service for a few hours before heading back to help hold the pit! Sunday we have a visiting speaker from L.A. coming down to give out talk. As is tradition, we will be having a Persian gathering after meeting to show hospitality! So no service again.... :(

Next weekend is convention cleanup and since this technically isnt OUR convention, we dont have an assignment to clean. So I thought I would just join my moms congregation and help in their section but now I am thinking that I might pass altogether so I can spend a long day out in the ministry. Afterall, I only have my weekends and the last weekend of this month I will be at the convention here in San Diego! So service it is!!!

My talk is done....

...in English! Now to translate it into Persian. Valerie has offered to help me with my translation, which I am so happy and thankful for! I wrote the talk with my English brain, not good. The sentances were long and complex. I need to learn to write with my Persian brain. Instead of saying:
"Well as the Law stipulated, the Sabbath came after six days of work and was primarily a day of rest. Jesus also performed many of his cures on that day. The six weekdays of work remind us of man’s past 6,000 years of slavery to Satan’s oppressive rule. The Sabbath day at the end of the week brings to mind the comforting rest mankind will experience during the Thousand Year Reign of Jesus. When Jesus Christ was on earth, he performed many of his miraculous cures on the Sabbath. To those who were offended by this he pointed out that he was “Lord of the Sabbath.” By this he was pointing forward to the Sabbath of a thousand years during which he will bring back mankind to perfection of body and mind. He will do for all mankind what he did for his people Israel back there. This will include even the raising of the dead."
I have to say:
"The Sabbath came after six days of work. It was a day of rest. Jesus performed (gave) many miracles on the Sabbath. Humans have been suffering 6,000 years. There will be 1,000 years of rest. Jesus will rule for 1,000 years. There will be peace. Humans will be happy. No one will be sick. No one will die. He will raise the dead."
I am learning!!! Thats the point of this process, to learn. I am very excited for my first talk in Persian. I was supposed to give one six months ago but I never got a talk slip and found out when I got to the meeting. I mean, if this was English, I would whip up an impromptu talk no problem, but in Persian, it'll take me a while to write it in English, then 'dumb it down', then translate it, then practice the life out of it. To give you an idea, this talk I'm working on now, its happening June 2nd. I wanted to give me plenty of time to get the process done. So I will let you know how its coming as I go along. Well my break is about over, back to work!

Been busy...

Well, as you can see, its been over 6 months since my last entry. Mostly life has been busier than I could have ever imagined. So much has happened, here is the Cliffs notes version:

So as you can see, I have been busy. Through all this I have had a Facebook account and have updated lots of things through there. But after realizing how much of a time waster it was as well as how much drama and unwanted crap there was, I deleted my account and decided to try and be a better friend in person, on email and on the phone. I need to update this page more for those of you (particularly out of state) who want to hear about how Persian is going and just keep up with whats new in my life. Hope this post finds you well!
